Movement for Carbon Sequestering Food aims to establish UK carbon-sequestering food systems that optimise land use and reverse the 139 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emitted each year, moving us away from reliance on imports and focusing on locally produced food.

Food waste separation and recycling in communities in the NorthWest - Lancaster

Lancaster Recycling Community plan to further raise awareness of food recycling waste and implement a range of green initiatives to over 1,000 local households. Plans include a kitchen food waste collection scheme and rocket composter.

Gener8tion4Action - Standish

Gener8tion4Action, led by a consortium of organisations in Manchester, aims to harness the energising force of local schools in motivating carbon-saving by the local community. Schools will form ‘hubs’ from which ‘energised’ pupils, parents and teachers will then pass on energy saving advice and action to their homes, community groups and businesses.

Carbonwise Salford - Manchester

A CO2 awareness-raising project from local charity The Youth Charter, ‘Carbonwise’ will aim to use sport, art and culture to engage and motivate school pupils and the wider community.

Connect to Your Carbon - Lancaster

‘Connect to your Carbon’ is developing a carbon footprinting tool for individuals and households in the Lancaster district and setting up carbon calculator sessions, home visits and carbon reduction action groups.

Sustainable Blacon - Chester

Blacon Community Trust aims to make Blacon Chester’s greenest suburb, a sustainable community practising energy efficiency and using renewable energy technologies. Plans include providing heat and power to the community through an innovative energy microgrid.

The Green School Bus - Lytham

The Green School Bus project, run by St Bedes School, aims to set up a Green Bus for the school and community that would use biodiesel, be equipped with solar roof panels and have charging points for pupils’ laptops, mobile phones and iPods/MP3 players.

Ford Park Community Group - Ulverston

Ford Park Community Group has ambitious CO2 reduction plans for its community centre including a green roof, ground source pump, solar thermal panels and grey water harvesting system. The group also has a range of practical and awareness-raising initiatives for further CO2 busting in the local community.

Hug Everything - Ancoats

Hug Everything plans to set up and run a comprehensive information and communications resource online. Additionally, the group is piloting a range of ‘Hug’ branded projects in their local area, including ‘Hug your home’ - a project to educate local people on how to grow and live off their own gardens.
