Not as good as you’d think

By nicola on 13 December 2007 | No Comments

There’s an interesting piece in today’s Guardian G2 which debunks some common “carbon myths”. There are 6 myth’s which range from the value of domestic generation of electricity to the real numbers on the UK’s carbon emissions from aircraft. According to the piece, even using eco lightbulbs doesn’t make as big an impact on our emissions as we would think. That’s not say that we shouldn’t bother using eco bulbs or that watching our food miles is pointless – it just means we need to do more if we are to make a real go of reducing our emissions by the possible 80% that government is talking about. The Big Green Challenge is about doing more – on a bigger scale with whole communities rather than just individuals and by encouraging people to come up with the really innovative solutions that are needed if our actions are to have any impact.

News: Webcast of the London Big Green Challenge event

By Vicki Costello on 7 December 2007 | No Comments

Last week, we held our regional event for London and the South East at NESTA headquarters here in London. Speaking at the event, Sarah Teather, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, said:

“The Big Green Challenge is an excellent initiative and I am honoured to be involved at the very beginning. I am sure that some very exciting and effective ideas will come out of the prize and look forward to seeing what communities in London will achieve.”

You can see a webcast of the event, including an inspiring case study and reminder of the rules, here.
